Despite his young age, Simon Proust has already had many successful experiences as a conductor. Second prize of the “International Conducting Competition George Enesco” in Bucharest, in the « Princess Aqtrid International Music Competition », and “Talent ADAMI 2016”, his career is starting in France and abroad. His passion for orchestral music manifests itself through his sensitive and energetic conducting of a large variety of musical styles. He is actually musical director of « Orchestre des Jeunes du Centre » in France.
Simon Proust started his musical education as a percussionist at the conservatory of his hometown of Tours in France. At the age of nineteen he entered the “Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris”. His studies included orchestral conducting, analysis and harmony. He completed his conducting studies with a master diploma in June 2015. Simon Proust’s musicianship has been influenced by personalities like A. Altinoglu, D. Zinman, P. Rophé, S. Mälkki, P. Eötvos and B. Haitink. He continues to develop his knowledge of the lyrical repertoire during a master class with P. Arrivabeni and the “Opera Royal de Wallonie”.
His wide repertoire not only includes the great masterpieces but also lesser known music, spanning works from small chamber orchestras to larger symphonic settings. His programs frequently include rediscovered or rarely played works. Contemporary music also plays an important part in his repertoire. He participated in a master-class with the “Ensemble Intercontemporain” and studied contemporary music with P. Eötvös at the Budapest Music Center. He regularly works with composers and has already conducted about forty world premieres.
From 2016 to 2018, Simon Proust was « Conducting Fellow » in the « Royal Conservatoire of Scotland » and assistant conductor of Thomas Dausgaard in the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In 2017, he becomes assistant conductor of the Ensemble Intercontemporain and has the opportunity to work regularly with Matthias Pintscher, Peter Eötvös, and the musicians of the ensemble. He conducts many orchestras in France like « Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire », « Orchestre National de Lille », « Orchestre de Chambre de Paris », « Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy », « Orchestre Symphonique Région Centre Tours ».
In 2019-2020, he will be back in Scotland with the «Rednote Ensemble » in Lammermuir Festival and Sound Festival. Then he will assist the famous french conductor Laurence Equilbey in a new production of « Der Freischüitz ». He will conduct the Ensemble Intercontemporain, « Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire » and many other orchestras.

In parallel with his activities as a conductor, Simon Proust don't hesitate to return to percussion when he has the opportunity. He also makes various arrangements and orchestrations for various formations, likes to imagine original and new forms of concerts.
He wants to keep his child's soul as long as possible, letting his dreams and his creativity run wild.
Alongside music, he is passionate about poetry, history and theater. Fascinated by the world of theater wandering behind the stage and backstage could be his favorite pastime!
